Abstraction enables me to focus on subject matter that I cannot approach in any other way. This subject seems timeless, almost without boundaries, because at its best, it defies limits. This subject constantly invites re-definition-change-invention. It borders on the impossible. My work is a slow revealing painting experience, with layers that become visible with time. They change with the time of day, time of year. The focus is on the whole first, and on the parts or points of reference second. Interaction with the room and architecture is part of the first experience where the paintings operate as shape and the room and wall as field or background. The paintings are about slowing down and letting the revelations come to you in your own perceptual time. The revelations are clues to what we already know or have experienced. The assumption is that we are nature. education1964 MFA, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY1962 BFA, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY professional1969 -2002 Professor of Painting and Drawing, Long Island University, C.W.
